What We Do

Annual College Panel (January)
Neuhaus Education Center and HBIDA convene a dynamic panel of college students with dyslexia and other learning differences for this annual event. The students share their experiences and strategies for college success with high school students and their parents. This event is for high school students, their parents, and educators.

Annual Spring Conference (March)
Virtual conference (30 Days On Demand) where participants hear knowledgeable speakers in a day-long session.

Annual Fall Symposium (September).

HBIDA’s largest event of the year. Dynamic speakers, breakout sessions, opportunities for networking as parents and professionals and incredible vendors.

Regional Group Events (Various dates)
HBIDA hosts and supports events throughout Houston and the surrounding areas to advocate, educate, and support literacy.

Scholarship Funds
HBIDA actively raises funds for teachers and parents to attend our conferences and symposiums in memory of John Lopez, D.D.S. We also fundraise for educational diagnostic testing for children in memory of Nancy LaFevers Ambroze,

Free Resource Directory
Each year, HBIDA spends countless hours creating a Resource Directory to provide free information to the public. These directories are available at all events and are made available online as well.

Monitored Helpline
If anyone has questions, concerns, needs referrals, has a struggle, or just needs guidance, we have a monitored Help Line available.  Please email helpline@houstonida.org

Speakers Bureau
HBIDA has a wealth of professionals available to present to your group about dyslexia. Texas law now requires that districts and charter schools provide a parent education program for the parents/guardians of students with dyslexia and related disorders. (19 TAC §74.28)

Parent Networking Group
gives parents an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas, receive support, and gather reliable information. HBIDA’s PNG meets twice a year, but hosts various events throughout the year.
