The Film Committee of Houston IDA
PURPOSE: To promote awareness of dyslexia through the film ‘The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia’ – A film by James Redford, Director
AUDIENCE: Public and private schools, administrators, teachers, parents, students, Houston community and surrounding areas; professionals in the fields of speech and language, psychologists, psychiatrists, and diagnosticians; business and community leaders, colleges and universities – anyone who seeks knowledge about dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.
VENUES: School auditoriums, community centers, churches, synagogues

DESCRIPTION OF FILM: The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia provides accounts of the dyslexic experience from children, experts and iconic leaders at the top of their fields to help us understand that dyslexia – a persistent problem with learning to read – can be as great a gift as it sometimes is an obstacle.
LENGTH OF PRESENTATION, INCLUDING THE FILM: 2 hours
DESCRIPTION OF FILM COMMITTEE PRESENTATION:
- Film Committee members are a committee from The Houston Branch of The International Dyslexia Association;
- In addition to the Film Committee, a panel of experts follow the presentation of the film; a panel of 3 – 5 experts may include a speech and language pathologist, a psychologist, a diagnostician, and an educator. The panelists field questions from the audience.
- Each attendee is provided the Resource Directory, a publication of the Houston Branch of IDA.
